Yoruba Obas Forum Condemn Murder of Traditional Rulers in Ekiti

Yoruba traditional rulers under the aegis of the Yoruba Obas Forum have condemned the gruesome killing of two traditional rulers, the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola by gunmen.

According to the press statement issued and made available to newsmen on Tuesday by the General-Secretary of the forum, the Olukotun of Ikotun-Ile, Oba. Dr. Abdulrasaq Adebayo Abioye, on behalf of the forum, described the killing of the two Yoruba traditional rulers as ungodly, inhuman, cruel and barbaric.

The Yoruba Obas Forum, who called on the government and security personnel to urgently fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime, condole with the families of the late monarchs and Ekiti State Government.

According to the Obas, “we are charging the Ekiti State Government to set the machineries in motion in fishing out the people behind the killing of the two monarchs on Monday while admonishing the security agencies to remain vigilant and resolute in the efforts to stamp out crime and criminality from the entire nation.

“This is a very tragic occurrence. It is a very sad development and if government security institutions continue to falter due to infiltration by individuals sympathetic to or planted within these structures to advance the agenda, then the people must rise in a well-coordinated manner to defend their lands and prevent their ancestral homes from being completely obliterated”.

According to the Yoruba Obas who cut across all South-West states and some North-Central states, “there must be urgent solution to the incessant killing and wanton assassination in the South Western states, enough is enough, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must rise to the issue of insecurity in the land and put permanent end to it.

According to the Yoruba Obas who re-emphasised the importance of traditional rulers’ role in the constitution, “that is one of the main reasons why we Yoruba Obas have been clamouring for constitutional roles for all traditional rulers across board in order to engender total peace and stability in the country.

“No one can underrate the contributions of the royal father’s as we are the custodians of our customs and traditions and we sustain peace and stability in our domain which are some of the main reasons government must accord us our due constitutional roles being the closest to the grassroot.

“If the constitutional roles are extended to us as traditional rulers, it would help in managing security crisis, operating community policing, governance, and management of the entire nation.

“That is why we are calling on our dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the National Assembly to act fast on the issue in order to find lasting solution to the insecurity in the country”.
