HFDI Conducts Monthly Supportive Supervision at General Hospital Ilesa to Strengthen HIV Services

Hope for Family Development Initiative, HFDI, Osun state, has carried out its monthly supportive supervision visit to General Hospital Ilesa, Ilesa West LGA, as part of efforts to strengthen the quality of HIV service delivery under the CDC/ECEWS SPEED Project.
The visit focused on monitoring HIV Treatment Services and HIV Testing Services, HTS, strengthening facility-community collaboration, and ensuring continuity of quality care for people living with HIV.
During the supervision, HFDI officers engaged healthcare providers at the facility to review progress of enrolled clients. Key areas discussed included treatment adherence, client retention, ART refills, viral load sample collection, and follow-up of clients with unsuppressed viral load.
The engagement provided an opportunity to identify gaps affecting treatment continuity and agree on strategies to address them. Collaboration between facility healthcare providers and Community Case Managers was also strengthened to ensure timely follow-up and improved treatment outcomes.
As part of follow-up activities, the team visited three households of clients with unsuppressed viral load.
The visits were aimed at understanding factors contributing to non-suppression, assessing ART adherence, providing counselling and support, and encouraging consistency with treatment.
Caregivers and family members were also engaged on the importance of medication adherence, regular clinic attendance, and viral load monitoring.
According to the HFDI team, findings from the visits will inform further interventions through the Community Case Management structure* in collaboration with the facility.
The team also monitored the implementation of HIV Testing Services in the community to ensure compliance with national guidelines and project standards.
Attention was given to quality counselling, confidentiality, proper documentation, correct testing procedures, linkage to care, and accurate reporting. Supportive feedback was provided to healthcare workers to address identified gaps.
HFDI said the supervision and household visits strengthened coordination between the facility and community structures, and enhanced efforts toward treatment continuity, viral suppression, and improved client outcomes.
“Through continued monthly facility supportive supervision, HTS monitoring, and targeted household follow-up of clients with unsuppressed viral load, HFDI remains committed to strengthening the quality of HIV services and contributing to improved viral suppression and health outcomes among people living with HIV in Osun State under the CDC/ECEWS SPEED Project,” the organisation stated.
