OSUN POLICE COMMAND ARRESTS SUSPECT OVER ALLEGED ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING
The Osun State Police Command has arrested one Babangida Muhammed ‘m’ in connection with an alleged case of sabotage, attempted kidnapping and demanding with menace, following a swift and intelligence-driven operation by operatives of the Command Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) Team H.
The suspect was arrested on 4th September, 2026, after the complainant reported that, he had been receiving threatening telephone calls from an unknown caller who identified himself as Babangida Muhammed.
According to the complainant, the caller allegedly threatened to kidnap him and members of his family unless he paid the sum of ₦13,000,000 (Thirteen Million Naira).
Upon receipt of the complaint, operatives of the VCRU team H acting on directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura psc(+), mnips, commenced intelligence gathering and strategically planned an operation to apprehend the suspect.
As part of the operation, a meeting point was agreed at Telemu area along the Iwo/Ibadan Road, Osun State, where the suspect directed the complainant to bring the demanded money.
On 4th September, 2026, at about 1400hrs, the complainant, acting in accordance with the operational plan, went to the agreed location with the money. Shortly afterwards, the suspect allegedly arrived, picked up the box containing the money and attempted to flee into the bush. The Police operatives immediately emerged from their covert positions and arrested him before he could escape.
The suspect is currently in police custody, while investigation is ongoing to determine other persons involvement to the alleged offence. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.

The release by the Osun PPRO, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi anipr states that the command assures residents of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and combating kidnapping and other forms of criminality across the State.
The Command also urges members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or threats to the nearest police station.
