Operatives of the Osun State Police Command have arrested a 28-year-old man, Taye Kasali, in connection with the alleged murder of his mother, Mrs. Kudirat Kasali.
The suspect was arrested on September 7, 2026, following a missing persons report and an intelligence-led investigation.
According to the release by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi anipr, a report was received at Bode-Osi Division on September 1, 2026 at about 7:30pm that Mrs. Kudirat Kasali and her son, Taye Kasali, were missing.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to killing his mother on August 31, 2026.
He claimed the motive stemmed from an argument, alleging that his mother had been calling him “a mad person” and had threatened to lease out their family farmland, which he described as the family’s major source of livelihood.
The suspect further confessed that he slit his mother’s throat with a machete and subsequently buried her body in a shallow grave within their family farm.
In the course of the investigation, Taye Kasali led police operatives to the location of the shallow grave where the remains of the deceased were recovered.
The machete allegedly used to commit the crime was also recovered as an exhibit.
The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Zungura, psc(+), mnips, has directed that the suspect be thoroughly investigated and subsequently charged to court upon completion of investigation.
CP Zungura assured members of the public that justice will be served in accordance with the law.
He also urged residents to promptly report cases of missing persons and other suspicious activities to the Police or other relevant security agencies.
