Minna Court Jails Man 7 Years for Raping 8-Year-Old Girl

A Niger State High Court sitting in Minna has convicted and sentenced Hussaini Suleiman, age 27, to 7 years imprisonment for raping an 8-year-old girl at his residence behind the Prison Quarters, Minna.
The judgment was delivered by Hon. Justice Binta Bawa at Court 8 on September 10, 2026. The convict pleaded guilty to the charge.
According to the prosecution, the case was referred to the NAPTIP Niger State Command by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Niger State Command on April 16, 2026, following a report of the rape of the minor.
During investigation, the convict admitted to committing the offence. He was subsequently arraigned before the High Court.
Justice Bawa convicted Hussaini Suleiman on his guilty plea and sentenced him to 7 years imprisonment.
NAPTIP described the conviction as part of ongoing efforts to ensure justice for survivors of sexual violence and to serve as a deterrent to perpetrators.
The Agency reiterated its commitment to working with security agencies and the judiciary to prosecute cases of child abuse and protect vulnerable children across the country.
