Osun State Government has expressed appreciation to indigenes in the diaspora who returned home to vote in the just concluded August 15 2026 Governorship Election that returned Governor Ademola Adeleke to office.
The Commissioner for Political Affairs and Inter-governmental Relations, Dr. Biyi Odunlade gave the commendation in Osogbo.
Dr. Odunlade said close to one thousand indigenes traveled from Côte D’Ivoire, Togo, Benin Republic, Ghana, USA, UK, Germany and other countries to participate in the election.
“Your sacrifice, financial commitment and determination to be part of this democratic process shows that the love for home is stronger than distance,” the Commissioner stated.
He noted that the large turnout of diaspora voters was unprecedented and a clear demonstration of confidence in the Adeleke-led administration.
The Commissioner said the administration recognises the role of Osun indigenes abroad in the state’s political and economic development.
He assured that government would continue to create avenues for the diaspora community to contribute to policy, investment and governance in Osun.
“We appreciate every one of you who left your businesses, took leave and spent resources to come and vote. This government belongs to you too, both at home and in the diaspora,” Dr. Odunlade added.
The Commissioner used the medium to call on more indigenes abroad to key into state development programmes and maintain their civic engagement ahead of future elections.
