Osun NAWOJ Celebrates Girls, Urge All To Have Vision For The Girl Child

The Osun state chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, has called on the government at all levels and stakeholders to have vision for the girl child and to stand in solidarity with girls around the world, especially Osun state.

This is as the association stated that prioritising investment of the female children is a good legacy for the future, and it charged all to prioritize girl child education, as they are the pillar of the society.

The statement was made by NAWOJ Chairperson Comrade Abisola Ariwodola and Secretary Oluwaranti Ojewumi, who joined the global community to celebrate the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child, with the theme “Girls’ Vision for the Future.”

The association reflects that the bold aspirations, hopes, and innovative ideas that girls hold for a brighter tomorrow, according to the theme, resonates deeply with the commitment of Osun NAWOJ to advancing the rights, opportunities, and well-being of girls in Osun State, Nigeria, and across the globe.”

While maintaining that the Girls Vision for the future which is year 2024 theme, conveys both the need for urgent action and persistent hope, driven by the power of girls’ voices and vision for the future, Osun Nawoj added that girls are the future, though they are leaders of today, and their vision is crucial in shaping the society we want.

This is the time to protect the girl child, and as an association that amplifies the voice of girls, advocating rights, and supporting visions for a better future, we have seen inspiring examples of young girls who are breaking barriers in education, science, technology, sports, and entrepreneurship.

NAWOJ recognizes the vital role which girls play in decision-making processes and encourage governments, non-governmental organizations, and civil society to involve girls in creating solutions for the future.

The association reiterated that in Osun State, NAWOJ will continue to champion the importance of quality education for all girls and thereby calls out to the government and stakeholders, for increased investment in education to ensure that no girl is left behind, especially at the grassroots.

As we celebrate this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, Osun NAWOJ envisions a future where every girl has the opportunity to achieve her dreams, contribute to her community, and lead without limitations. “Let us be the change-makers who stand with girls and create a world where they can see their visions become a reality,” – the statement concluded.
