HFDI Sensitizes Traders at Alapa Market on Sexual, Reproductive Health and Communicable Diseases

Hope for Family Development Initiative (HFDI) has held an awareness session on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and communicable diseases, sponsored by Jhpiego, a global non-profit health organisation, for traders and residents at Alapa Market in Kwara State.

The April 24 outreach reached participants, which include adolescents, youths, and older adults. The session aimed to increase knowledge of SRHR and communicable diseases, promote access to health services, and encourage responsible health-seeking behavior.

HFDI Facilitators at the sensitisation gave an overview of SRHR and its importance to the overall well-being of young people, they also emphasized understanding body changes during adolescence and the need for informed decisions on relationships and personal health.

Participants were urged to avoid misinformation and rely on credible sources.

The discussion also highlighted personal boundaries and consent, with facilitators stressing that every individual has the right to make decisions about their body without pressure or coercion.

Information was shared on youth-friendly services available at nearby health facilities, where adolescents, youths, and older adults can access confidential counseling, testing, and other health services in a supportive environment.

The session was interactive, with participants asking questions and sharing concerns. All issues raised were addressed to deepen understanding of the topics.

At the close of the session, participants said they had gained more knowledge and showed increased awareness and improved understanding of SRHR and communicable disease prevention.

HFDI said the outreach forms part of its ongoing efforts to improve community health literacy and link people to available health services in Osun State.
