On HIV Prevention Education, Hope for Family Development Initiative, HFDI Osun state, commemorated International Youth Day with a Youth Health and Wellness Outreach, for NYSC Corps Members at Fakunle Grammar School, Osogbo.
At the programme designed to educate young people on HIV/AIDS prevention, safer sexual practices, and the importance of knowing their health status, the interactive session was facilitated by Mr. Bamidele, HFDI Programme Expert.
Bamidele spoke on the importance of protecting oneself from HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections, as well as preventing unwanted pregnancy, while emphasising the need for young people to take responsibility for their health and make informed decisions.
He added that abstinence from sex, is another save method, and anyone who choose to have intercourse must protect him or herself with condom, stressing that the usage will protect from contagious diseases in copulating.
Practical demonstration on the correct usage of both female and male condoms was conducted, as the process showed participants step-by-step how to properly insert and remove the female condom, and how to use the male condom, which was later distributed.
The session was highly interactive, with Corps Members asking questions on safety, effectiveness, and proper handling. Itunu addressed all concerns and clarified doubts.
Various health tests were also carried out during the outreach, including: HIV test, Malaria test, Blood sugar test, and Blood pressure check.
The Corps Members who turned up for screening were also tested at the programme to know their status.
HFDI described the outreach as successful and impactful, noting that the interactive demonstration, high turnout, and encouraging test results showed the programme was relevant and well received.
The organization maintained that continued youth-focused health education, improved testing capacity, and regular outreach activities will further promote the health and wellbeing of young people in the community.
