Osun PHC Organises Capacity-Building Workshop for Health Officials

The Osun State Commissioner for Health, Hon. Jola Akinola, has declared open a three-day capacity-building workshop for directors and deputy directors of local government health authorities in the state.

 

At the programme being held at Western Sun Hotel, the Commissioner for Health stated that the workshop is part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen leadership, administrative capacity, and data management skills among primary health care managers.

 

Speaking at the opening session, Hon Akintola stressed the importance of accurate and timely data in driving effective health policies and improving service delivery, and urged participants to actively engage in the sessions, ask relevant questions, and share practical experiences that would enhance their performance.

 

The commissioner also emphasized that knowledge gained from the training should be effectively applied in their respective local government areas to improve primary health care services.

 

He noted that primary health care remains the foundation of the health system, adding that strengthening it would reduce the burden on secondary and tertiary health facilities.

 

The Commissioner for Health, further highlighted the need for continuous capacity building, describing it as vital for sustainable development in the health sector beyond political cycles.

 

In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Shina Igbalaye, pointed out that the programme bring together key stakeholders, including Special Adviser to the Governor on the Primary Health Care. Dr. Michael Oyerinde, Chairman primary Health Care Development Board Hon. Tajudeen Adisa, the permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health Dr. Isiaka Adekunle and health directors, and trainees from across the state.

 

He explained that the training is designed to improve efficiency, optimize resource use, and strengthen service delivery within the primary health care system.

 

Dr Igbalaye added that participants are expected to cascade the knowledge acquired to their subordinates and ensure effective implementation at all levels.

 

He also encouraged attendees to adopt innovative approaches and maintain accountability in their duties.

 

The state government reiterated its commitment to investing in health infrastructure, workforce development, and system strengthening initiatives aimed at improving healthcare outcomes and boosting public confidence.

 

The workshop is expected to enhance service delivery, improve patient outcomes, and increase community trust in the state’s primary health care system.
