Osun Govt Lauds CIoTA For Commemorating World Sustainable Transportation Day

To achieve a transport system that supports environmental protection, economic growth, and social well-being, Osun chapter of the Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria CIoTA joined the global community to reflect, innovate, and renew its commitment on transportation.
This is as Osun state government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke lauded the CIoTA initiative which has aided the transportation administration process in Osun state.
This was disclosed during the programme, themed: “Reducing Emissions Through Innovative Transport Solutions,” held at the Conference hall of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare in Osun state.
The Commissioner for Transport, Hon Sesan Ephraim Oyedele, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Olumide Taiwo said that the government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke will ensure that infrastructures needed to aid transportation in the state will be provided.
Speaking on the theme,”Reducing Emissions Through Innovative Transport Solutions,” the Guest Speaker, Professor Benedict Boye Ayantoyinbo of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH, highlighted the various means of transportation: vehicles, aeroplane and trains, and he pointed out the most popular as cars.
While stating that electronic cars emits less emissions than the others, but it is expensive to own, he said Trains also discharge reduced emission, and he added that airplanes emits large percentage of emission while flying passengers in the air, as it emits straight to the ozone layer.
He also listed the health risk of transportation pollution in the environment and relayed how to avoid this emissions health risks, that could cause disease such as cancer.
Professor Ayantoyinbo commended CIoTA for the laudable programme and urged the government to provide road infrastructure which wont damage vehicles, and he called on stakeholders to always ensure that their vehicles are always serviced and that they should observe transportation regulations put in place by the government.
In his address, the Chairman, Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria CIoTA, CTN Adewuyi Steven Opeyemi said as the world faces the impacts of climate change, the transport sector remains a major contributor to carbon emissions, added that from electric mobility and cleaner fuels to intelligent transport systems, green logistics, and non-motorized transport, innovation is reshaping how people and goods move.
“In Osun State, we have the responsibility to adopt these solutions in ways that reflect our local needs and aspirations, and CloTA, as the professional custodian of transport administration, is committed to promoting policies, practices, and partnerships that drive sustainable mobility.”
“We believe that efficient transport is not only about movement, it is about safety, economic prosperity, environmental stewardship, and improved quality of life.”
The CIoTA Chairman reiterated the associations resolve to strategise, strengthen collaboration with the government, private sector, academia, and transport operators, as well as chart a clear path toward emission reduction.
While commending all for their commitments, he urged the participants to be champions of innovation, ambassadors of responsible mobility, and drivers of positive change, maintaining that the he future of transportation in Osun State depends on the decisions taken.
The World Sustainable Transportation Day programme was attended by stakeholders such as Director Transport Operations MoT, Engr Ayo Oyewole, Director Planning, Research and Statistics CTN. A.B. Abdulahi (FINSTA), and ENGR. W. L. Isa Director Vehicle Inspection Services, the transportation unit of the Nigeria Police Force, and Road Transport Unions such as NURTW, RTEAN, ATTAN, and Cooperatives in Transport among others.
