The Obolo Royal Family of Irele LGA, Ondo State is in mourning following the passing of Chief Akinfaderin Omofojoye, popularly known as Baba Leron, and the Akingboju of Ode-Irele in Ondo State.
In a statement signed on Sunday, 24th August 2026, the family announced that the revered elder statesman peacefully departed on Friday, 21st August 2026 at the age of 86.
Describing him as a son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor and distinguished elder statesman, the Obolo Royal House said Chief Omofojoye lived a remarkable life of service and leadership, dedicated to the progress and unity of his family, community and society at large.
“Until his passing, Baba Leron as fondly called, was a man of great wisdom, integrity, courage, and uncommon dedication. He left an enduring legacy of love, leadership, and sacrifice,” the statement read.
The family noted that his wise counsel, braveness, generosity, and exemplary character touched many lives. As a respected elder statesman, he was described as “a source of strength and guidance to generations” and will be deeply missed by family, friends, associates, and the entire Ode-Irele community.
In the announcement signed by Chief Segun Daramola, Adele Obolo, and Ikusdaisi Omofojoye, Akingboju Designate, on behalf of the Obolo Royal House, they said the burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
The family also appreciated members, friends, associates, traditional rulers, religious leaders and well-wishers for their prayers, support and solidarity during the difficult period.
