Gov Adeleke Appoints Mrs Victoria Adunola Samson (BOVAS) as Chancellor, Osun State University

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has approved the appointment of Mrs Victoria Adunola SAMSOM, popularly known as BOVAS as the new Chancellor of the Osun State University, Osogbo.

 

The tenure of the former Chancellor, Apostle Folorunso Alakija ended on March 18, 2026 and the government of Osun State paid a celebration visit to Apostle Folorunso Alakija on Friday 8th May, 2026 to express the gratitude of the University to the Alakija family for the excellent support that the Alakija family gave the University and Osun State. Apostle Folorunso Alakija served the University for 10 years(2016-2026) as Chancellor.

 

The State Governor commended the impact of Apostle Alakija which he said remains a living legacy, especially the donation of the multi-billion naira Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital to the Osun State University.

 

According to the release signed by the Spokesperson to the Governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the new Chancellor, Mrs Victoria Adunola Samson, popularly called Mama BOVAS is the founder of the popular BOVAS Oil and Gas Company.

 

An Iree indigene from Boripe Local Government of Osun State, the new Chancellor was born on December 05, 1949.

 

Under her management and that of her husband, the BOVAS oil and Gas Company, has achieved great milestones by growing the retail arm of the business from one petroleum products service station to over 200 stations and over 2000 fully employed Nigerians as at December 31, 2025.

 

Mrs Samson owns the Texaco Petroleum Franchise and emerged the Texaco Nigeria Plc First Nigerian to win the highly competitive Texaco Latin America and West Africa (LAWA) Award for Best Overall Dealer in 1990.

 

She recorded the highest sales in both West Africa and Latin America combined.

 

Mrs Samson has held leadership positions in the oil and gas sector where she served as the Matron, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), NNPC/PPMC Satellite Depot, Ejigbo, Lagos State and Apata Depot, Ibadan, Oyo State.

 

She is also a member, Board of Trustees, Depot and Petroleum Products Marketing Association (DAPPMA).

 

Mrs Samson holds the Professional Diploma in Marketing and certificate from Harvard University Business School’s Leadership for Family in Business in (2013). She is also a beneficiary of the Chief Executive Program IESE, Barcelona Spain.

 

Governor Adeleke noted that Mrs Samson manages her business with integrity, accountability and patriotism, noting that the State Government recognizes her decency and integrity in doing business in a society like ours where people oftentimes attempt to put logic head down.

 

“We recognize with appreciation, your distinct effort to make life easy for the consumers of petroleum products. We celebrate you and use you to represent a symbol of decency, honesty, integrity and humanity in our society.
