OSCO-HEALTH, Ilesa Inducts 65 Medical Lab Science Graduates into MLS Council of Nigeria

…don’t rest on your laurels – Provost tells inductees….

65 Medical Laboratory Technician graduates of the Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa have been inducted into the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).

 

The event held at the College’s school hall not only honored academic achievement but also showcased the institution’s dedication to equipping students with the skills required to thrive in an interconnected world.

 

The ceremony highlighted OSCO-HEALTH, Ilesa’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically proficient but also adept in leadership, innovation, and problem-solving—qualities essential for success.

 

Speaking at the ceremony, Provost of the College, Dr Lateef Olarewaju Raheem urged the students not to rest on the feat they have just achieved in the field of Medical lab services, while charging them to see the achievement as a foundation for greater things to come.

 

He said the occasion marks another milestone in the history of the College as new set of competent, disciplined, and professionally prepared Medical Laboratory Technicians are being released into Nigeria’s health sector.

 

While charging the inductees to be professional and efficient, the Provost said, “This induction is not merely a ceremonial engagement, it is the symbolic transition from from learning to practice, from classroom knowledge to real-world service. As Medical Laboratory Technicians, you are entering a profession that forms the diagnostic backbone of healthcare delivery.

 

“Today, as you join the noble family of healthcare practitioners, I urge you to carry the banner of excellence high, be diligent, be ethical, be compassionate and let your work speak for you”. He stated.

 

Administering the oath on the new inductees, Registrar and CEO, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Dr Donald Ibe Ofili charged them to continue to make the Council proud wherever they find themselves in the world.

 

The Registrar who was represented by the Director, MLT/MLA Registration and Discipline, Mrs Onakalu O.J explained that the induction is the beginning of a noble journey of service, sacrifice, and professional responsibility, urging them to see their certificate as not a mere license but a call to ethical service.

 

He urged the inductees to uphold the highest standards of Medical Laboratory practice, act with integrity, compassion and professional decorum, stressing that they are now custodians of public trust who should wear their uniforms with dignity and serve with commitment.

 

Delivering the induction lecture at the event, the Guest Lecturer, Mr Lateef Ademola Adeyemi who is the Head of Department, MLS at Interlink College of Health, Ijebu-Jesa described Medical Laboratory Services as the backbone of Primary Health Care system.

 

He explained further that they are uniquely trained to address social determinants of health, promote quality, build trust, foster integration of other sectors and community engagement.

 

While calling on the inductees to uphold professional ethics, Mr Ademola charged them to abide by the strict rules of the profession, stressing that they should never compromise the quality of laboratory results because a single error can alter treatment outcomes.

In her address, the Head of Department, Mrs Mary Oluwabunmi Apara congratulated the students for their commitment and resilience to achieve their success just as she expressed gratitude to the school management for the support towards the department.

 

She said the significance of the event is that it is a rite of passage, an official of years of academic rigor, clinical exposure, ethical instruction and professional discipline and which marks the time the graduates formally take their place among those who serve as the unseen backbone of medical diagnosis and treatment.

 

In her words, “Dear inductees, success in your professional journey will not come by accident, it will come through commitment, humility, and continuous self-improvement. Do not compromise your standards for personal gain, be guided by conscience, by science, and by service to humanity”. She stated.
