NAWOJ SUMMIT: Let’s Use Realistic Multifaceted Approach to Break Gender Bias and Economic Instability –  B.O Akinleye PhD

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ B-Zone has pointed out, at its Women Summit that it is time to use realistic multifaceted approach to break gender bias and economic instability staring the female gender in the face.
This was disclosed by the Guest Speaker, Dr Mrs B.O Akinleye, Bursar Adeleke University Ede, at the NAWOJ B-Zone SouthWest Women Summit held at NUJ Secretariat Events Hall in Osun state, where she opined that empowering women will unleash transformative force, that will propel the nation forward, she added that creativity, productivity and innovation drives economic growth, as well as improves health and enhances quality of life.
Akinleye PhD who also represented the First Lady of Osun, Chief Mrs Titilola Adeleke, NAWOJ Matron, also stated that according to the National Bureau of Statistics shows that 80-million Nigerians live below poverty line, and she stressed that comprehensive approach must be used to address the flaws by diversifying the economy, with investment in various sectors, foster entrepreneurship and implement prudent national policies, reduce corruption and ensure transparency in governance.
The erudite scholar, who is also the Wife of Osun State Chief of Staff, affirmed that, by stabilizing the economy, there would be job creation, growth stimulation, and improved standard of living which will reduce unemployment, poverty, and inequality, thereby building a more prosperous and inclusive society.
She averred that breaking gender bias and economic instability are not only moral imperatives, but an economic necessity, which will unlock Nigeria’s full potential, and ensure brighter future for ourselves and generations to come.
In his royal message, the Olufon of Ifon, HRM Oba Peter Ipadeola Ilufemiloye Akinyooye, Aremo Obatala commended NAWOJ for the apt summit which is addressing basic desire of the women folk.
Hinging on the importance of empowerment for the female gender, he relayed his support for the association on women and children related issues, while he declared the summit open.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Oluomo Kolapo Alimi also applauded the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ for their bold stand in being the voice of Women and Children.
He, on the behalf of the government assured the female journalists of inclusion and good governance, adding that providing sustainable economy for women, children, vulnerables and everyone in the state is part of the welfare priority of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
In his goodwill message, the state Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Osun Council, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu gave accolades to the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ B-Zone for addressing bothering issues that will aid development in Osun state, as well as the SouthWest states and Nigeria at large.
He emphasized the need for everyone to support the agenda of breaking bias and helping the women to survive economically, an action which he stated will promote family and societal unity, while also improving development.
In her address, the National Zonal Vice Chairperson, Comrade Adeola Adekunle stated that breaking gender bias and surviving economic instability is a clarion call to action, a point for equal opportunities and empowerment with tools necessary to thrive in an unpredictable economic landscape.
She opined that gender bias is not just a woman issue, but a societal issue which stifles innovation, invades growth and perpetuates inequalities, she added that it’s time for solutions that foster inclusion and progress to be created, as agents of change to break gender biases, navigate economic uncertainties and embrace development that Nigeria desperately needs.
Highlight of the NAWOJ B-Zone SouthWest Women Summit powered by Osun chapter of the association under the leadership of Comrade Abisola Ariwodola led Executive was the investiture of Mother of the state, Chief Mrs Modupeola Adeleke-Sanni, Yeyeluwa of Ede land as the Grand Matron of the association, as well as the Award Conferment as Outstanding Women Friendly Constituency Project Performance on Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi representing Osun Central Constituency at the House of Assembly Abuja.
Yeyeluwa Modupeola Adeleke-Sanni in her acceptance speech, reaffirmed her commitment to women’s empowerment, gender equity, and the fight for a just society, adding that with her role, she will continue to support initiatives that uplifts women, protect rights of children, and create opportunities for all.
The newly installed Grand Matron of NAWOJ, who emphasized that when women support one another, incredible things happen; barriers break, the gender is empowered and a thriving future is built, assured NAWOJ of her unwavering support.
The quarterly NAWOJ B-Zone SouthWest Women Summit in Osun state, which had held in Ondo and Lagos state, was graced by dignitaries which include: Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare Hon Mrs Ayobola Fadeyi-Awolowo, incoming Chairman of Ede South Alhaji Lukman Afolabi, NAWOJ leaders, Southwest Chairpersons and Secretaries, female professional bodies and relevant Stakeholders from across the states, among others.
