Group Join State-Level Step-Down Training to Strengthen Community Response for AGYW and Male Partners
A non-govermental organisation in Kwara state, Hope for Family Development Initiative, HFDI, Kwara State participated in a State-Level Step-Down Training for community service providers on Adolescent Girls and Young Women, AGYW, and their male sexual partners.
The training which held at G-Pinnacle Hotel, Ilorin, Kwara State was organized to strengthen community systems and build the capacity of Civil Society Organizations, AGYW networks, APYIN, NANATA, and other community stakeholders to advance adolescent sexual and reproductive health, ASRH.
The Training: was set to increase Awareness on ASRH and youth-friendly health services, Prevent Gender-Based Violence* and harmful traditional practices, Improve Access to early detection, referral, and treatment support, and Strengthen Community Response for both AGYW and their male sexual partners.
Participants were drawn from Community-Based Organizations, ACOMIN networks, APYIN, AGYW groups, and other relevant stakeholders across Kwara State, including representatives of HFDI.
Delivering the welcome remarks, Mr. Segun Oyedeji, Public Health Officer, provided strategic direction on the importance of community-driven approaches in addressing adolescent sexual and reproductive health, including male partners. He emphasized the role of CSOs in early case detection, treatment adherence, and stigma reduction.
Also, in his goodwill message, Mr. Kamaldeen, SHF Community Facilitator, reinforced the need for collaboration between government, CSOs, and communities to achieve effective interventions on adolescent sexual health and family planning.
Facilitating a technical session, Mrs. Maryam Sani, NACA HQ Program Officer, outlined the importance, symptoms, objectives, scope, and expected outcomes of the training. She clarified the expected roles of CSOs as actors in case finding, referral, treatment support, advocacy, and SRH monitoring.
By the end of the program, HFDI and other participants demonstrated increased knowledge, improved confidence, and strengthened capacity to support community-driven SRH interventions.
The training enhanced participants’ readiness to engage in case finding, referral, and treatment support within their respective areas of implementation in Kwara State.
Similarly, the session fostered improved interaction, collaboration, and a shared understanding of contributions to the AGYW response at the community level.
HFDI reaffirmed its commitment to work with government and partners to ensure adolescents and young people in Kwara have access to accurate information, youth-friendly services, and a safe environment free from GBV and harmful practices.
