Passersby with smartphones watch as woman commits suicide from flyover in Delta state

An unidentified woman has jumped to her death from the Ekpan-Refinery flyover in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State on Saturday morning.

The reasons behind her drastic decision remain unclear, but it is speculated that the ongoing economic hardships in the country may have contributed to her despair.

In a one-minute and 14-second viral video, passersby with their smartphones, watched as the woman inched closer to the edge of the flyover, and were recording her.

Despite motorcycles and other vehicles passing by, she ultimately took the plunge from the rail-less edge, which had been stripped by hoodlums.

An onlooker, who posted the video, commented on the incident: “She killed herself by jumping off the flyover that leads to the refinery at Ekpan, a spot that has been quite familiar for decades now.”

“Depression is real, and we would do well to regularly check on our loved ones, neighbours, friends, and colleagues, especially in these trying times.”

The post continued: “Depression is a disease that is actually treatable, and we must never, ever succumb to it. No matter what is happening, it is only temporary.

“Where there’s life, there is also hope, and that is one of the great mysteries of life. May God rest her soul.

“And for God’s sake, people should always stop such attempt, rather than recording, that shows we have empathy, the post stated.
