Osun Govt Strengthens Preparedness Against Ebola Virus
By Abisola Ariwodola,
Osun State Government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke has assured residents of its preparedness to prevent the Ebola virus from entering the state, saying all necessary preventive measures are already in place through the State Ministry of Health.
This was contained in a communiqué issued after the first post-election state executive council meeting held on Friday in Osogbo. The meeting deliberated extensively on the Ebola challenge and approved a plan of action submitted by the State Ministry of Health.
According to the government, no single case of Ebola has been reported in the state. The council’s decision, however, is focused on preventive rather than curative measures as outlined by the Ministry of Health for likely suspected cases.
The State Commissioner for Health, Hon. Jola Akintola, while allaying the fears of residents, urged both public and private hospitals in the state to promptly report suspected cases and to remain on alert to ensure adequate preparedness.
In a press statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, at the end of the meeting, the government said the Ministry of Health is not leaving any stone unturned in line with intensified contact tracing, surveillance and emergency preparedness being carried out by health authorities at the federal level.
The government urged residents not to panic but to cooperate with health officials and report any symptoms to the nearest health facility.
