Osun Workers Endorse Adeleke’s 2nd Term as He Reaffirms Commitment to Workers’ Welfare

Osun State Public workforce has endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for his 2nd term ambition, as he also reaffirm his administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers and pensioners in the state, declaring that his government has prioritised prompt salary payments, pension reforms and improved working conditions since assuming office in November 2022.

 

Receiving the Governor and his entourage were citizens, workers and people of Osun from all local government areas painting the atmosphere yellow – Accord Party colour.

 

Speaking at the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration organised by the Osun State Joint Labour Movement, led by the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC in Osogbo, Governor Ademola Adeleke said workers remain central to the development of the state and deserved adequate support and recognition.

According to the governor, at assumption into office his administration moved swiftly to address challenges faced by workers by implementing a new minimum wage of over 75 thousand naira for civil servants in the state.

 

He said the decision was aimed at improving the living standards of workers in the public service and ensuring fair compensation for their labour, whole adding that his administration had also cleared over 50 billion naira in pension arrears and outstanding obligations inherited from previous administrations.

 

The governor added that significant progress had been made in the payment of half salaries owed to workers as well as pension liabilities accumulated over more than a decade, he buttressed that despite financial challenges facing the state, especially issues surrounding local government allocations, governor Adeleke said his administration had continued to ensure the payment of salaries for local government workers and allowances for traditional rulers.

 

In the area of civil service reforms, the governor said his administration restored the position of Permanent Secretaries in the state civil service and ensured that previously approved promotions without financial backing were fully implemented.

Ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state, he appealed to workers to support his administration for continuity, saying the gains achieved in workers’ welfare and governance reforms needed to be sustained.

 

The year 2026 Workers Day celebration was graced by the State Controller Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Engr Adeyemi Ali, who in his representation of the Minister DR. Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi CON, at the programme described Nigerian workers as the backbone of this nation.

 

Speaking on the theme: Insecurity and Poverty: The Bane of Decent Work,” he stated that it not only speaks directly to the realities confronting our workforce today, but resonate the priority areas of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration, particularly as they relate to national security, job creation, youth empowerment inclusivity and food security.

 

He affirm that the Federal Government remains steadfast in its commitment to wage reforms. The recently implemented minimum wage is not the end of our journey, but a step toward ensuring that every worker earns a living wage that reflects both dignity and fairness.

 

He also added that the government of President Bola Tinubu through the ministry of Labour and Employment is working on policies that will ensure decent work and promote inclusive economic growth in our dear country.

 

The number one Labour leader in Osun state, Dr Christopher Abimbola Arapasopo commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for his people, and workers friendly policies, infrastructure development and other laudable programmes in the interest on the people.

 

He added that the workforce of Osun state will consistently support him, adding that with his government, Osun state stands as model in Nigeria, compared to other states of the federation, and thereafter presentation of affirmation award was presented to the Governor by the state Labour Leaders.
