About 2,000 newly admitted students of Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun and Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti in affiliation with the College, completed a five-day orientation programme aimed at preparing them for academic and moral excellence.

The orientation designed to familiarize freshers with the campus environment, academic regulations, student support services, and the college’s ethical expectations, took place at the Governor Jackson Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke Hall.

The programme opened on Day 1 with the management team led by the Provost, Comrade Dr. Lasisi Ayanda Jimoh, who urged students to pursue academic success with discipline and integrity.

The then Ag. Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Sola Akinrinade, also welcomed students and stated that the theme “Academic and Moral Excellence” would guide the week’s activities.

Students received practical briefings on school fee payment procedures by the Bursar, Comrade Akintunde Ojo; library registration by College Librarian, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Ajiboye; college dress code and penalties by Student Affairs Officer, Mr. Tunji Odediji; and examination malpractices and sanctions by Mr. Akinrinade.

Day 2 focused on academic integrity and professionalism. The Osun State Director of TRCN sensitized students on the role of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, while Dr. H.I. Umar-Olarewaju spoke on ethics and moral conduct for teachers.

The day featured a scholarship award by Hakunamata Company, led by alumnus Mr. Femi Emmanuel Tewogbade, where 10 top-performing students and two students from underprivileged backgrounds received certificates and fee sponsorship for the 2025/2026 session. A student who returned a lost wallet was also recognized.

On Day 3, students were introduced to digital platforms by Mr. Seun Akintayo Ojo of the ICT Directorate, and to Nelfund loan application processes by Mr. Saheed Shaidu, who demonstrated a student’s successful N360,000 loan disbursement. The College Health Service and NDLEA also addressed students on healthcare services and the dangers of drug abuse.

Day 4 covered road safety, study habits, and social vices. Assistant Route Marshal Mr. Hussain, representing the Federal Road Safety Corps, gave safety tips. Dr. I.A. Animasahun advised on effective study habits, while Mrs. Adeola Ojo warned against social vices that could derail students’ academic journey.

The programme closed on Day 5 with a summary and final advice from the former Ag. Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Sola Akinrinade, who urged students to abide by the college’s rules and regulations.

As part of the orientation, Mr. Ojo Akintayo Seun of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology delivered a lecture on “The Role of ICT in Students’ Academic Journey.” He introduced students to the college website, student portals, online payments, bio-data and course registration, result checking, and the grading system. The DICT, he explained, operates two units: Management Information System for student profiling and result processing, and College Café for bio-data, course registration, and hardware maintenance.

The College said the orientation has equipped freshers with the information and motivation needed to excel academically and socially.

Also in his remarks, the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Babatunde Samuel Ajala, said the programme reflected the college’s motto of “Academic and Moral Excellence,” noting that OSSCEILA students recently won leading prizes and topped Southwest academic competitions among Colleges of Education.

Throughout the week, students engaged speakers in interactive Q & A sessions.
