SECURITY: Put A Leash On Your Dogs, Osun CP Warn Residents

By Abisola Ariwodola,

The Osun Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Umar Abba has warned residents of the state to put a leash, or cage their dogs for the safety of others in their neighborhood.

This is as the police command is drew the attention of the members of the public particularly those rearing or breeding dogs, especially exotic ones for guard/security purposes or otherwise on the increasingly recent attacks on people by their dogs.

The CP made the disclosure through a press release made on his behalf by the command Police Press Relations Officer, SP Yemisi Olawoyin Opalola on Sunday.

In the statement, “the Police Command urged members of the public to restrain their dogs in their houses in cages or leashes with a view to reduce attacks on people.

It further asserted that vaccination be done on these dogs in order to reduce the risk of contracting Rabies virus which can be deadly if these dogs happen to bite individual(s).

“The commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Umar Abba advised members of the public to be abreast of the *DOG ACTS* cap 35 law of the federation of Nigeria, which states that: A dog keeper: somebody who is in charge of a dog is supposed to ensure that every dog to be handled is vaccinated, duly controlled, should not be set loose to bite passerby. Anything outside your yard (fence), is not your house, meaning that if any dog gets loose and bites anybody outside it’s owners compound, this is an *offence*.”

CP Abba used the medium to assure the good people of Osun State of his commitment to improve the status quo as one of peaceful States in the country.
