Osun NLC Stages Protest Over Insecurity

The Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday held a peaceful rally in Osogbo, demanding urgent action from government at all tiers to curb the escalating insecurity in the country.

Labour leaders, civil society groups and other participants marched with placards bearing messages such as “Tinubu Act Now,” “Stop the Killing,” and “Nigeria Is Bleeding,” among others.

Addressing journalists during the demonstration, the Osun NLC Chairman, Christopher Arapasopo, said the protest was organised to alert those in power to the worsening threats to lives and property across Nigeria.

He lamented the rise in kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery and communal clashes, stressing that citizens now live under the shadow of fear.

He said, “This is just a kind of awareness and telling the government at all levels to wake up to protect life and properties of all Nigerians. The insecurity in Nigeria is getting higher on a daily basis and we can’t watch this.”

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Coalition of Civil Society, Waheed Lawal, explained that Nigerians deserve the highest level of protection, noting that the country’s constitution clearly mandates government to safeguard the lives and property of every citizen.
