Kano hooks up 50 Journalists in Mass Wedding

Kano State Government has announced plans to marry off 50 journalists and other media workers in the next batch of the state’s mass wedding programme.

The Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Aminu Daurawa, disclosed this while speaking with journalists on Wednesday, May 1, 202.

According to him, the initiative aims to extend the programme’s benefit to professional groups, including members of the media.

He highlighted the success of the previous batch of mass weddings where 1,800 marriages were consummated.

In light of this success, the Hisbah chief said the board decided to expand the programme to include interested members of various professional fields such as journalism, law, and healthcare.

Daurawa explained that the state’s mass wedding initiative was conceived to promote moral values in society and reduce immorality among young men and women.

A collective wedding or mass wedding is a marriage ceremony in which a small or large number of couples are married at the same time.

In 324 BC Alexander the Great married Stateira II, the eldest daughter of Darius, the king of Persia. In the same ceremony, he wed many of his leading officers and outstanding soldiers to other Persian women, about 80 couples in all.

Today, these ceremonies are now performed in places such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Kurdistan, Palestine, South Korea, The Philippines and Yemen.

Today in Northern Nigeria, many state governments have embarked on conducting mass weddings by taking responsibilities of all expenses.
