GBV: Report Abusers, Don’t Be Scared, HFDI Tells Students in Akwa Ibom

By Ifeoluwa Nelson,

Hope for Family Development Initiative HFDI has charged girls in Akwa Ibom state to report gender based violence abusers to relevant authorities around them.

This is as the non governmental organisation urged the female students not to be scared of an abuser, or of reporting gender violence made against them, siblings or their friends,

According to HFDI, reporting gender based violence and gender and child protection is crucial to prevent assault, sexually transmitted diseases, infection or even death.

The Akwa Ibom Office Program Manager, Uchenna Uwaoma at a program in Etinan, made the students to understand that the relevant authorities aside their parents could be their teachers, community leaders, police among others.

At the talk, the adolescents were screened, and encouraged to be free to discuss any challenges encountered as they grow daily.

She urged participants at the program to join in the crusade of ending Gender Based Violence.
