OTZ Club Holds Sensitisation On STIs And Teenage Pregnancy In Ilorin

Operation Triple Zero Club held a sensitisation and interactive session on prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and teenage pregnancies in Ilorin, Kwara State.

 

The sensitisation held at the Children Specialist Hospital Center, Igboro, focused on the topic Sex and Relationship, aimed to educate adolescents with the focus of informed decision-making, and healthy relationships.

 

The meeting was facilitated by Mrs. Martha Adeshiyan, a seasoned health educator, engaged the participants using interactive methods, real-life examples, and open discussion formats to ensure active participation.

 

The facilitator who emphasized the importance of self-awareness and respecting personal boundaries, educated the participants on the biological, emotional, and psychological aspects of sex.

 

She highlighted healthy versus unhealthy relationships, peer pressure, and the significance of mutual respect, consent, and communication in relationships, as well as risks such as unplanned pregnancy, STIs including HIV, and emotional trauma and the need for total abstinence and safe practices (where applicable).

 

Mrs Adeshiyan encouraged the participants to know their self-worth and she provided strategies for assertiveness and boundary-setting.

 

In response, the participants expressed appreciation for the session, stating that it was eye-opening and informative, they applauded HFDI for the open dialogue which allowed them to share their thoughts and experiences freely, they also displayed understanding on how to navigate peer pressure and make healthier choices in relationships.
