Local Govt Autonomy Actualisation Is A Long Process, Be Patient – Osun NULGE President Urge Members

The President of Osun State Chapter of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade (Dr.) Ogungbangbe Nathaniel Kehinde, has revealed that the delay in the salary payment being experienced presently by  local government workers in the state is due to the newly passed local government autonomy bill.
It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu some weeks ago assented to the local government autonomy bill, thereby, restraining state governors from tampering with local government allocations.
Meanwhile, this has caused a bit delay in the payment of salaries of council workers as necessary things are put together to ensure that local governments in the state receive their allocation and salaries as expected.
In lieu of this, Dr. Ogungbangbe, in a statement by his media aide, Francis Felix, has appealed to the local government workers in the state to exercise more patient, as their salaries will be paid very soon.
Ogungbangbe posited that ”the much-talked autonomy in the local governments refers to the degree of freedom and self-governance that local authorities, such as municipalities or councils have to make decisions and take actions without interference or control from higher levels of government, such as national or regional authorities.
”However, it would take a long process before it materializes and this, we believe is what is causing delay in the payment of our salaries as currently being experienced.
”As a result of this, i wish to passionately appeal to local government workers in the state to be patient, as everything will soon be sorted out and we will all laugh last.”
Dr. Ogungbangbe used the medium to eulogise Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke for prompt payment of salaries and arrears of backlog of workers in the state.
