The Federal University Oye Ekiti has recorded breakthrough in science with the local production of an electric vehicle, bicycle and mechatronic doors.
The items were few out of many other innovations exhibited by the university after a press conference to herald the 8th convocation ceremony addressed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina.
The vehicle was test ran by the vice Chancellor within the campus premises to the admiration and cheering of the students and staff.
Similarly the mechatronic doors were also operated and it worked perfectly.
The electric vehicle which was produced by staff and students of the Faculty of Engineering has unique features such as high speed, durability, lack of noice and emissions just to mention but a few.
Speaking with Journalists after test running the vehicle, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abayomi Fasina commended the students and lecturers for the great initiative which he said would put the university on global map.
Professor Fasina noted that the University would support the faculty to improve on the production and commercialize it for economic benefits.
According to him, the University is ready to support great ideas and innovations that would address the various challenges facing the country.
The VC announced plan to set up an independent power plant that would ensure 24hrs electricity to the university community and by extension the neighboring communities for commercial purposes.
He highlighted some of his achievements since he assumed office to Computerization of the Bursary, Harnessing the potential of Alumni, affiliation with not less than fifteen international institutions, improvement on students and staff welfare, provision of shuttle buses to cushion effect of fuel subsidy introduction of Professor of practice for effective training of students, building of modern infrastructure and procurement of necessary facilities that could enhance teaching and learning.
He added that the University is planning to build a modern office for professors, Senate building and Career Advancement Centre for graduating students of the university.

Giving the convocation highlights, the VC said a total number of 6563 graduates would participate in the ceremony with 114 First class whom he said would be absurd into the system.
Professor Fasina also talked about the killings of monarchs, where he condemned the gruesome killing of two Ekiti monarchs and tasked researchers to come up with modern technological initiatives that could assist government to fight crime.
