Osun 2026: Adeleke Urges Security Agencies to Remain Professional, Neutral Ahead of Poll

By Sunday Okunade,

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged security agencies deployed for the August 15 governorship election to remain professional, neutral and non-partisan in the discharge of their duties.

Governor Adeleke made the call while receiving the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abubakar Ahmed, who paid a courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House in Osogbo, the state capital.

The governor said Osun, traditionally regarded as one of Nigeria’s peaceful states, had recently witnessed political tensions, violence and killings allegedly linked to activities of opposition supporters.

Adeleke expressed concern over comments credited to the Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Adenigba Fadahunsi, which he said were capable of heightening tension in the state. He consequently urged security agencies to intensify their presence, particularly in the Ife-Ijesha axis, to prevent violence and ensure a peaceful election.

“I’m not requesting special favour from any security agency, but I want you to do your job professionally without being one-sided or partisan,” the governor said.

He also appealed to security personnel to protect voters and other residents while ensuring that all political parties and candidates are given equal treatment during the electoral process. Adeleke appreciated the NSCDC Commandant General and his team for visiting the state ahead of the election.

Earlier, the Commandant General, Abubakar Ahmed said the NSCDC delegation was in Osun to ensure the safety and security of citizens before, during and after the poll. He assured the governor that the corps would remain neutral and unbiased while working to provide a level playing field for all voters.

Ahmed disclosed that officers had already been deployed across the state and urged residents to remain peaceful and shun violence before, during and after the election. He warned that security agencies would take action against anyone whose conduct threatens public peace or disrupts the electoral process.
