Osun Guber: INEC Declares Eighty Percent Readiness, Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency, Professionalism

Towards Osun State Gubernatorial Election scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 15, 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has declared Eighty-percent readiness to the election activities.
This is as the Commission also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, professionalism, neutrality and inclusivity to achieve a free, fair, credible and peaceful elections in Osun state.
This was disclosed by the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola during the Press Briefing held at Olusegun Agbaje Media Center INEC Osun State Office, Osogbo on Wednesday.
According to the Osun REC, the Press Briefing formally marks the commencement of the Commission’s electoral activities for the Governorship Election and will provide an update on the Commission’s preparedness, key electoral timelines, the timetable and schedule of activities.
While pointing out that the 80% of non-sensitive materials required for the election have been received and deployed to LGAs and batched into Ras and Polling Units (PUs), she added that sensitive materials requirement for the election have also been identified.
She opined that aside the statutory activities, a number of other pre-election operational activities are being executed in preparation for the election to ensure the conduct of credible, free, fair, peaceful, transparent, and inclusive election in Osun State.
Stating further, the REC says that Election security is important and it requires coordinated planning, shared intelligence, and unified operational execution, says INEC Osun state office is collaborating closely with relevant security agencies and is fully prepared to work out difficult terrains and flashpoints to aid planning, deployment strategies, and reconnaissance operations have been identified.
The Osun REC also highlighted that a total of 97 Super RAC and 105 RACs will be used to camp SPOs, POs and APOs for the election to ensure early deployment of men and materials on election day, in advancing credible, peaceful, inclusive, and transparent electoral processes in Osun State.
She also informed the media men that BVAS will be deployed across all 3,763 polling units in the state for voter accreditation to ensure that only registered voters with valid PVCs vote on election day, and that additional 664 BVAS will also set aside as backups, after which there will be uploading of polling unit results directly to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) for enhanced transparency and for the public to have access to PU election results.
Emphasising that political parties, civil society organisations, religious leaders, community leaders, journalists and other stakeholders all have important roles to play in encouraging eligible voters to exercise their franchise, Mrs Babalola appealed to media organisations to support the electoral process by providing fair, balanced and credible reports throughout the election period, she urged the media should not overheat the polity, but to cooperate with the commission through balanced and credible reportage.
