Oke-Ila Community Supports Prevention of GBV Against Women and Children in Osun 

Stakeholders in Oke Ila Community in Ifedayo local government of Osun state, has declared their support for prevention of Gender Based Violence against Women and Children.

 

This is as the community decided to start the campaign right from their doorstep, to all homes in their community and neighborhoods.

 

The ancient town lead by Oba Dr Adedokun Abolarin Aroyinkeye 1, Orangun of Oke-Ila joined the campaign on prevention of Gender Based Violence against Women and Children, an Initiative of ActionAid Nigeria in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare.

 

The declaration and support was made at the town hall meeting, held at the Palace of Orangun Oke-Ila in Ifedayo local government area of Osun state.

 

Oba Dr Abolarin who is also the Chairman Multi-Stakeholders Action Committee on Prevention of GBV Against Women and Children in Osun state, opined that starting right from his community, he will ensure that the menace is nipped totally in the bud.

He maintained that education and awareness is a vital tool to ensure protection of women and children, and he used the medium to address the future generations at the program to stay safe, get educated and avoid conflict that could lead to violence.

 

Citing examples of couples who lives peacefully with each other with rancour, Oba Abolarin said his parents of blessed memories led good legacy for him, stressing that no violence was in their history and he added that such a life can be lived by everyone in this age.

He stated that preventing gender based violence is possible and called on Stakeholders to be abreast of their responsibilities, while he also cautioned against meddling with any GBV that might turn up.

 

The ActionAid Nigeria, MAP GBV Project Advisor, Mr Ademola Adeniran eulogized the Oke-Ila community for embracing what is right and needed in preventing gender based violence.

 

He opined that the call to save women and children from violence is achievable, adding the ActionAid Nigeria will not relent in its objective of service to humanity through its sponsor, the Ford Foundation.

 

Affirmation on Prevention of Gender Based Violence, GBV on women and children were made by the participants at the townhall meeting at Oke-Ila Community.

 

At the program were traditional chiefs, religious leaders, community people and students.
