Borno Flood: Osun NAWOJ Sympathises With The National Chairperson, Hajia Aisha Bura, and People Of the State

Osun Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), has extended its deepest condolences to its national Chairperson, Hajia Aisha Bura and the entire people of Borno State, over the recent destructive flood that resulted into loss of lives and properties, thereby unleashing immense suffering, on residents.

 

In a release jointly issued by Osun Nawoj Chairperson Comrade Abisola Ariwodola and Secretary Oluwaranti Ojewumi, the duo described the flood occurrence in which, Alau dam overflowed the bank, as disastrous.

 

Osun NAWOJ expressed sadness, and with grief reflected on the alarming numbers of lost lives, properties, homes, and livelihoods affected by the calamity.

 

According to the release, Osun NAWOJ stated that it is deeply troubled by the flood destruction, and the suffering that the people of Borno are currently experiencing, that is why we are reaching out in sisterhood solidarity and support to our people, who are affected.

 

Our Dear leader, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, the affected families, and communities struggling to cope with the aftermath of this disaster.

 

As the state is navigating through this period of immense difficulty, Osun NAWOJ salutes the resilience and strength of the people of Borno, which they are well-known for, hoping that the federal, state and local governments, powerful stakeholders, NGOs, and well-meaning corporate bodies, and the people will together and overcome these trying times.

 

As members of the fourth estate of the realm, Osun NAWOJ used the medium to also call on all relevant authorities and humanitarian organizations, to provide the necessary assistance and relief to the affected individuals and communities, saying that it is in moments like these that the spirit of unity and compassion must prevail.

 

Madame National Chairperson of NAWOJ, you bear the additional responsibility of supporting and leading our members and people during this crisis, especially with your humanitarian skill. Be rest assured that we will always support you.

 

In conclusion Osun NAWOJ prays that the souls of those who lost their lives in the flood disaster, rest in peace, and pray that those who are injured or displaced, to find comfort and healing, and that God grants the entire people of Borno the strength and fortitude to bear the loss and to rebuild in the aftermath of the tragedy.

 

Natural disasters such as this brings untold hardship, and we can only imagine the pain and anguish that the people of Borno state are going through, at this moment of sorrow, please accept our deepest sympathy and unwavering support.

 

“We particularly call on the governments to ensure that reoccurrence is forestalled and the mandate of protection of lives and properties is prioritised, together, we shall rise above this adversity and emerge stronger” – Osun NAWOJ stated.
