NAF STRENGTHENS AVIATION SAFETY STANDARDS, ACHIEVES YEAR-LONG INCIDENT-FREE RECORD

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to aviation safety, operational discipline, and professionalism, following a significant milestone—completing a full year without any aircraft mishap.

This achievement was announced by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, during the 2025 Safety Review Board (SRB) Meeting held at NAF Headquarters in Abuja.

The CAS emphasized that this success reflects not mere fortune, but deliberate reforms and a proactive safety culture built on vigilance, accountability, and institutional foresight.

Air Marshal Abubakar credited the achievement to several strategic initiatives, including the expansion of safety training programmes, strengthened oversight at all command levels, and the integration of predictive safety management systems.

Over 1,300 airmen and 157 officers have participated in safety induction training in 2025 alone, bringing the total number of safety-trained personnel to 1,199.

The CAS noted that universal safety education remains a top priority, stressing that technological advancements must be matched by equally robust safety infrastructure. “No matter how advanced an aircraft may be, its effectiveness is ultimately determined by the safety environment in which it operates,” he stated.

Reinforcing this commitment, the Chief of Standards and Evaluation, Air Vice Marshal Abidoye, revealed that 58 units were evaluated and 31 underwent safety inspections in the first half of 2025. He added that safety seminars have been held across commands to sustain awareness and compliance.

The CAS urged commanders to maintain vigilance, calling for stronger unit-level accountability and continuous improvement. The meeting concluded with a renewed resolve to embed safety not as a checklist, but as a fundamental value that underpins every aspect of NAF operations.
