HIV PREVALENCE IN NIGERIA: Over 24 Million Youths Affected Amid U.S. Aid Suspension

New data from Statisense has revealed alarm!ng figures on the number of Nigerians aged 14 to 24 living with HIV, just weeks after the U.S. government suspended HIV aid to Nigeria.

 

The report, based on estimates from UN/NAOMI, indicates that over 24 million young Nigerians are currently living with the v!rus, with Lagos (3.45 million), Kano (3.33 million), and Kaduna (2.12 million) topping the list of the affected states.

Concerns Over Rising HIV Cases

Health experts warn that these figures could worsen following the recent suspension of U.S. HIV/AIDS assistance to Nigeria, which previously funded testing, treatment, and awareness programs.

 

While the Nigerian government has not yet responded to the report, public health advocates are urging increased domestic funding and policy intervention to prevent a further spike in infections.
