UNIOSUN’s Continental Ranking Reflects Adeleke’s Commitment to Education, Says Pro-Chancellor
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Osun State University, Professor Wale Oladipo, has expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, for his unwavering commitment to education, describing the University’s outstanding performance in the July 2026 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities as a reflection of the Governor’s visionary leadership and sustained investment in the education sector.
Professor Oladipo made the commendation following the release of the latest global rankings, which placed Osun State University 19th among Nigeria’s 312 universities, third among the country’s 68 state-owned universities, and 137th out of 2,390 universities in Africa.
According to the Pro-Chancellor, the University’s impressive rise in the global rankings is not accidental but the result of deliberate government policies that prioritise quality education, institutional stability, research advancement and the provision of an enabling environment for academic excellence.
“On behalf of the Governing Council, Management, staff, students, alumni and the entire UNIOSUN community, I sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, for his steadfast support for Osun State University and his firm belief that education remains the most potent instrument for sustainable development,” Professor Oladipo said.
He noted that since assuming office, Governor Adeleke has consistently demonstrated an uncommon commitment to strengthening public tertiary education through prompt attention to the needs of state-owned institutions, sustained infrastructural development, improved funding and policies that promote academic excellence and institutional growth.
Professor Oladipo observed that the Governor’s support has significantly enhanced the University’s capacity to compete favourably with leading institutions in Nigeria and across Africa while creating an environment that enables staff and students to realise their full potential.
He also commended the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, the University Management, Senate, staff, students and alumni for their dedication, hard work and collective commitment, which have continued to raise the institution’s profile both nationally and internationally.
“The Governing Council is proud of the remarkable progress the University has recorded in recent years. This latest Webometrics ranking is further evidence that Osun State University is on a steady path to excellence. It confirms that the University’s strategic direction, combined with the consistent support of the Osun State Government, is delivering measurable results,” he added.
Professor Oladipo reaffirmed the Governing Council’s commitment to providing sound governance and strategic oversight to sustain the University’s upward trajectory. He assured stakeholders that the Council would continue to work closely with the University Management to consolidate the institution’s achievements in teaching, research, innovation, digital visibility and global competitiveness.
