Osun PHC Achieves Major Milestone As It Performs First Successful Emergency Caesarean Section

The Primary Health Centre (PHC), Oke Gada, Ede, Osun State, has successfully conducted an Emergency Caesarean Section (CS) on a pregnant woman, Mrs. Adeniyi Rukayat, resulting in the safe delivery of a bouncing baby boy weighing 3.5 kilogrammes.
The emergency surgical procedure was performed at the facility on Friday, August 28, 2026, with the baby delivered at about 2:30 p.m. Both mother and child were reported to be in good condition after the operation.
Mrs. Rukayat, who commenced her antenatal care at the PHC in May 2026, was managed throughout her pregnancy at the facility where a safe vaginal delivery was anticipated.
The successful operation was conducted by Dr. Ashafa Musa and his team, who demonstrated professionalism and dedication in ensuring the safety of the mother and her newborn.
Speaking after the delivery, the father of the newborn, Mr. Adeniyi Kehinde, expressed appreciation to Dr. Ashafa Musa and members of his team for their diligence, commitment and professionalism.
He also commended the Osun State Government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke for its investment in the healthcare sector and the upgrading of Primary Health Centres across the state.
Mr. Adeniyi noted that a procedure of such nature would have cost the family hundreds of thousands of naira if it had been carried out in a private hospital, expressing gratitude that his wife received the service free of charge at the PHC.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Sina Igbalaye, visited the facility following the successful operation and commended the physician and other health officials for their dedication to duty.
Dr. Igbalaye expressed appreciation to Governor Ademola Adeleke for his continued support and investment in the health sector, particularly the recent recruitment of health workers, upgrading and strengthening of Primary Health Centres across the state.
He said the successful emergency Caesarean Section at PHC Oke Gada, Ede, was another demonstration that the administration’s investment in primary healthcare is yielding positive results and providing residents with access to quality healthcare services closer to their communities.
He reiterated the commitment of the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board to sustaining quality healthcare delivery across the state while ensuring that residents, particularly women and children, have access to affordable and effective healthcare services.
