The National President of the Gbongan Odeomu Anglican Grammar School, GOAGS Old Students Association, Mr Jide Iyanda has commended the 1981 Set of the school, describing them as a “model” for other sets to emulate.
The President gave the commendation in his address to members of the 1981 set, at the 2026 Biennial Meeting and Réunion programme held in Osogbo, where he praised their commitment to the growth and development of the college and the association.
Mr Iyanda who described the set as the most active, charged them to continue leading by example, with particular emphasis on sustainability of projects, inclusion of all members, as well as future generations, investing in the Alma Mater, and driving development initiatives that will have lasting impact on both the school and the wider community.
According to him, the 1981 Set has consistently demonstrated unity, dedication and a strong sense of responsibility, qualities that have set them apart within the GOAGS alumni community.
The National President who emphasised unity and networking, called on all GOAGS Alumni sets to take a cue from the active 1981 set by prioritising collective action, mentoring younger alumni, and supporting projects that will enhance infrastructure, welfare and academic excellence of the students of the school: the future Alumni members.
Mr Jide Iyanda reaffirmed the national body’s commitment to working with all sets to strengthen the association and ensure that GOAGS remains a force for positive change.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the immediate past Chairman Engr Dokun Ige presented the associations comprehensive biennial report, outlining the activities, financial contributions, and social engagements undertaken by the leadership team during their tenure from September 2024 to September 2026.
During the period under review, the 1981 Set lauded the members, especially the diaspora allies, and reinforced its commitment to academic, athletic and other development projects at their alma mater, and emphasized the need for more structured, long-term development initiatives for the school.
Highlight of the Biennial and Reunion was the election of new executive to run the affairs of GOAGS 1981 set from year 2026 to 2028.
The election coordinated by a neutral umpire assisted by the Special Adviser recorded the executives as:

In his acceptance speech, the GOAGS new Chairman, Mr Femi Salami reaffirms the commitment of the executives and 1981 set to the Alumni Association and the Alma Mater.
Thanking the immediate exco for job well done, he lauded the group members for their support, and hinged on continued collaboration by all sets in the country and in diaspora, and charged everyone to prioritise sustainable physical development projects.
He pledged the unalloyed dedication of the new Exxos of the 1981 set to take the Alumni Association of Gbongan Odeomu Anglican Grammar School GOAGS to great height.
Key Highlight of the programme was the Health Talk by Professor Kayode Ogunniyi of Mercy University Iwo, who listed common diseases associated with age 40 to 60 as diabetes, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, lack of exercise among others.
He urged the Alumni members who graduated at year 1981, to consider their present age, and take extra precaution of being health conscious, living and eating healthy, and sticking only to prescriptions from their Doctors, while he warned against self prescription.
Professor Ogunniyi described various exercise that boosts energy and prevent dementia, adding that “reading is good for the brain, if you don’t want to read any book, read your Bible or Quran, he stated.”
Congratulating the 1981 set for consistency, he urged the members to maintain unity, cherish their friendships, and continue supporting and looking out for one another, and stay healthy as they work toward leaving an enduring legacy for GOAGS.
