SECURITY: Osun NAWOJ Urge Residents To Support Government, Activate ‘Omoluabi Ethos Of Being Our Brothers Keeper’

The Osun State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, has called on residents across the state to support the government security efforts and revive the Omoluabi ethos of vigilance, unity, and “being our brother’s keeper.”

In a statement issued by the NAWOJ Chairperson Comrade Abisola Ariwodola and Secretary Oluwaranti Ojewumi, the association said lasting peace in Osun can only be achieved when citizens partner with security agencies and take responsibility for their communities.

The association which called for collective responsibility noted that with the spate of insecurity in the country, alongside the August 15, 2026 governorship election approaching, there is need for increased community vigilance to prevent hoodlums or terrorists from hijacking the peace of the state.

NAWOJ emphasised that the Yoruba Omoluabi values of integrity, respect, communal responsibility, and truthfulness are critical tools for fighting crime at the grassroots.

“Omoluabi means you do not keep quiet when evil is planned in your street. It means a mother will caution her son, a neighbor will question strangers, and communities will protect each other. That is how we defeat kidnappers, cultists, and political thugs”.

Security is everyone’s business. We urge Osun residents to support Governor Ademola Adeleke’s proactive measures by providing useful information, reporting suspicious movements, and activating the Omoluabi spirit of looking out for one another,” NAWOJ stated.

As a leading women association, the female journalists’ body expressed concern on secured environment, adding that women and children are most affected in the end result of insecurity, and specifically charged women to use their networks in markets, churches, mosques, and schools to sensitize families on safety tips. It also urged youths to avoid crime, and fathers to pay more attention to their environment and to protect their families.

On the forthcoming election in the state, the association called for peace and urged the youth to shun violence, and embrace productive engagement ahead of the election, saying their votes counts, and their lives matter.

Osun NAWOJ commended the State Government Governor Ademola Adeleke, Amotekun Corps, Police, NSCDC, and local Hunters for their collaboration, and pledged to use its media platforms for continuous voter education and peace advocacy.

The association maintained that When we are our brother’s keeper, criminals have no hiding place. Osun must remain peaceful, safe, and united for all,” the statement concluded.
