Adeleke Delivers Long-Awaited Urban Water Supply Master / Investment Plan for Osun State – Oroniyi

By Olayemi Olojede,

The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has successfully facilitated the preparation of the long-awaited Water Supply and Sanitation Master/Investment Plan for Urban Water Supply and Sanitation, marking a major milestone in the state’s efforts to improve access to potable water and sanitation services.

The development comes after several unsuccessful attempts by previous administrations to secure a comprehensive framework for urban water supply and sanitation.

The Adeleke administration revived the process in 2023 through the intervention of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement programme held at Aenon Suites, Osogbo, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Sunday Oroniyi, described the master plan as a strategic roadmap for addressing water supply challenges and improving sanitation services across the state.

According to him, the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation secured funding through a grant arrangement under the Urban Water Sector Reform and Akure Water Supply and Sanitation Project for the preparation of the Water Supply and Sanitation Master / Investment Plan for Osun State. The project was fully financed by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation.

The consultancy services for the preparation of the plan were handled by Devafrique Resources Limited and Geo-Kooy Environmental Resources Limited in a joint venture partnership.

Project documents indicate that the master plan is aimed at promoting universal access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation, attracting investment into the water sector, and providing a sustainable framework for future development and service delivery.

Also speaking, the General Manager of the Osun State Water Corporation, Engr. Mrs. Dupeola Jokotola, said the successful completion of the plan would serve as a guide for sustainable water supply and sanitation services, particularly in urban centres, thereby improving the quality of life of residents across Osun State.
