Prevention of GBV: AAN Multistakeholders holds Bi-monthly Accountability and Coordination Meeting in Osun, Reiterates Protection

The Multistakeholders Action Committee on Prevention of Gender Based Violence Against Women and Children in Osun state has reiterated its protection objectives to the good people of the state.

 

The GBV prevention committee made this known at the Bi-monthly Accountability and Coordination Meeting, held at Aenon Suites Conference hall in Osogbo the State capital.

 

At the meeting which had in attendance, representatives of ActionAid Nigeria AAN, Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare, Security agencies, and non-governmental organisations, the committee reviewed its activities for the first year of the project among other discussions.

 

In her opening remarks, ActionAid Nigeria Specialist Project Human Rights Unit, Vivian Efem-Bassey who welcomed all to the first review meeting in year 2025, talked about the project outline.

 

She commended the committee on the output so far, and asked for more collaborative efforts to amplify protection of women and children in the state, while she also asked for strategic planning to ensure that Osun state make good impact among the Ford Foundation sponsored implementation state.

 

In her Welcome of address, the state coordinator, Mrs Olabiyi highlighted the activities done, its gaps and success story, and the forthcoming programmes which are prevention of GBV based, in the interest of women and children in Osun.

 

The Representative of Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare, the Director Gender Mrs Lola Adewale speaking on Accountability & Coordination with Government, appreciated ActionAid Nigeria, and the Multistakeholders Action Committee for supporting the state government activities on elimination of Gender Based Violence.

 

Applauding the Prevention of GBV ActionAid initiative, she reiterated that the ministry will continue to partner the organisation, while she also relayed the programmes of the government on protection women and children against gender based violence.

 

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, the Orangun of Oke-Ila, HRM Oba Adedokun Abolarin Aroyinkeye 1, lauded the commitment of the committee on Gender Based Violence service delivery of protecting women and children in Osun state.

 

He opined the determination of the committee to put in efforts in strategically eliminating GBV, while adding that increased campaign and sensitisation, as well as advocacy among others will be judiciously utilised to achieve the aim of the ActionAid Nigeria GBV initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare.

 

Oba Adedokun also assured all, that he would continue to use his role as a monarch to positively influence his community, other monarchs and the education sector on having a gender based violence free society.

 

Discuss such as progress towards GBV prevention in Osun State by respective agencies / organisations, Challenges / Risks / Mitigation, as well as Media Campaign and the role of the Committee was addressed.
