A 15-year-old girl, Amarachi has been rescued after she was allegedly locked inside a toilet for months by her employers in Abuloma, Rivers State.
Amarachi, who hails from Ebonyi State, was reportedly living with the couple, Eze Simeon and his wife, as a house help.
According to accounts, the teenager was allegedly locked in the toilet as punishment for committing an offence. She was said to have suffered severe neglect and was fed only once a day with leftover food.
The victim was rescued on Monday, September 15, 2026, after she raised an alarm while the couple had gone out. Neighbors who heard her cries for help immediately contacted the Abuloma Police Division.
Police officers responded swiftly to the scene and successfully rescued the girl.
Confirming the incident, the Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Agabe Blessing, said investigations are ongoing.
She stated that the couple are currently in police custody, while the victim’s family has arrived in Rivers State to take custody of Amarachi.
Authorities said the case will be thoroughly investigated and the suspects will face appropriate legal action.
The incident has sparked outrage over the treatment of child domestic workers and renewed calls for stricter enforcement of child protection laws.
