The Deputy Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Akinyode Abidemi Oyewusi has charged students of Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa to rise up to their academic pursuit for their own good and the society at large.
The Deputy Speaker stated this while delivering his keynote address at the first ever Legislative Summit of the College organized by the Students Senatorial Council of the institution.
Rt. Hon. Oyewusi who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Sanitation, Hon. Oluwapelumi Ojo Peters urged the students to see themselves as the future which the country relies on.
He tasked them to see themselves as problem solvers for the society while urging them to observe their immediate environment at all times and identify a challenge or problem which they can give solutions to.
While congratulating the Students Senatorial Council of the College for successfully hosting the first ever Legislative Summit in the history of the school, the lawmaker charged them to ensure honest and equitable representation of their colleagues.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Comrade Aderoju Oladejo Bashiru urged the students to always see dialogue as the best way to resolve Issues rather than violence.
He noted that dialogue at the roundtable goes a long way in resolving misunderstandings better than violence, while charging the Students Senatorial Council to ensure that they have close communication with the College Management at all times.
Declaring the Legislative Summit open, the Provost of the College, Dr Lateef Olarewaju Raheem expressed delight that the institution now have a Students Senatorial Council who will ensure that the yearnings and aspirations of the students get to the school management.
He assured the students of his cooperation and support at all times in a bid to ensure that students welfare and academic excellence is not jeopardised.
Earlier in a welcome address, President of the Senate, Senator Sofiat Ogundele thanked the Management of the school led by the Provost for giving students of the College the freedom to express themselves on campus.
She said the Students Senatorial Council will ensure fair and unbiased representation of their colleagues through robust dialogue with the school management on issues relating to students welfare and academic progress.
The 3 days Legislative Summit featured a visit to the Osun State House of Assembly where the Students Senatorial Council witnessed the plenary session at the Hallow Chambers before the grand finally which brought together student union bodies from across the country including NANS and NAOSS.
