NAWOJ Condemns Tragic Killings in Kano, Extends Condolences to Families of Victims

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the tragic incident in Dorayi, Kano State, where a mother and her six children were brutally murdered by three individuals.

 

NAWOJ extends its heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Kano State, particularly the bereaved families affected by this devastating loss.

 

The Association mourns the untimely death of these innocent lives and offers prayers for the repose of their souls.

 

The National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, strongly condemns this heinous and inhumane act, describing it as a grave violation of human dignity, and calls for swift and uncompromising justice for the victims.

 

NAWOJ reaffirms its unwavering commitment to advocating for justice and the protection of the rights and safety of women and children across Nigeria.

 

The Association commends the Commissioner of Police, Kano State, and the entire Nigeria Police Force for their prompt response and the arrest of the principal suspects involved in this crime. NAWOJ appreciates their dedication to ensuring that justice is served.

 

NAWOJ further calls on relevant authorities to ensure that the suspects are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, in order to deter similar acts of violence.

 

The Association stands in solidarity with the people of Kano State during this painful period and reiterates its call for collective efforts to safeguard lives and uphold justice.

It can be recalled that the gruesome attack which occurred in Kano’s Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters on Saturday, claiming the lives of seven people, including a 35-year-old woman and her six children .

 

The victims, identified as Fatima Abubakar and her children, were brutally attacked at their residence by unknown hoodlums who broke in and inflicted fatal injuries using dangerous weapons.

 

Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the command received a distress call at about 12:10 pm on January 17, reporting the attack on the household of one Haruna Bashir.

 

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, immediately mobilised a team of officers to the scene, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani,” he said.

 

According to the police, the victims were evacuated to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.

 

“The bodies were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival,” Kiyawa said.

 

The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Wada Jarma, has been directed to lead a thorough investigation to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.

 

The command expressed condolences to the bereaved family, residents of Dorayi Chiranchi and the people of Kano State, assuring that efforts were underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.

 

The incident has thrown the Dorayi Chiranchi community into mourning, with residents calling for improved security and swift action to prevent a recurrence.
