AFCON 2023: ‘We Need Your Support Not Threats’ – Ahmed Musa Begs Nigerians

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has appealed to Nigerians to support the country’s team as they go into the 2023 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, holding in Ivory Coast.

Musa’s appeal was made known during an interview he granted recently on why Odion Ighalo, who is still scoring goals in the Saudi Arabia league retired from the Super Eagles.

The Super Eagles captain said Ighalo’s family was threatened to be killed once upon a time.

He worried that “How would you threaten to kill someone’s family because he wanted to play for his nation? He had to quit”.

Our people need to support the players. They are worried about what they will see on their accounts on twitter and so on if they finish playing. We need your support not threats.”

Super Eagles going into the tournament with the current African Best Player of The Year, Victor Osimhen, are one of the favorites to win the trophy.

The Super Eagles were defeated 2:0 by Guinea in a buildup friendly match ahead of the AFCON tournament starting this weekend.
