OSUN NAWOJ CELEBRATES WOMEN ON IWD 2025, CALLS FOR ACCELERATED ACTION ON GENDER EQUALITY, OPPORTUNITY
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Osun State Chapter, joins the global community in celebrating the remarkable women of Osun State on this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 with the theme “Accelerating Action.”
This year’s theme underscores the urgent need to move beyond discussions and take decisive steps toward achieving gender equality, opportunity, women’s empowerment, and inclusive development.
As we mark this day, we recognize the resilience, contributions, and achievements of women across all sectors; politics, business, education, media, healthcare, and entrepreneurship who continue to drive progress in Osun State.
According to a release jointly signed by the chairperson of the association Comrade Abisola Ariwodola, and Secretary Oluwaranti Ojewumi, NAWOJ acknowledges the efforts of the state government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, civil society organizations, and stakeholders in advancing women’s rights.
However, more needs to be done. We call for accelerated action in key areas: like Political and Economic Empowerment where more women must be given leadership opportunities and equal access to resources.
Also in education and Skills Development in other to achieve increased investment in education and digital skills training for young girls and women, the existing policies has to be improved upon for the benefits of the female gender.
On Gender-Based Violence Prevention, the government should strengthen laws and its enforcement to protect women from violence, child trafficking, rape, early marriage, harassment, assault, and discrimination, among others.
Lastly Osun Nawoj urged the state government to enhance healthcare services to ensure the physical and mental well-being of women and the girl child.
As female journalists, we reaffirm our commitment to amplifying women’s voices, advocating for policies that promote gender equality, opportunity, and holding stakeholders accountable for meaningful change.
On this special day, as Osun NAWOJ, we celebrate the resilience of every woman in the state, and encourage all to continue striving for a society where every woman and girl can thrive, lead, and succeed, – the statement concluded.
