Terrorists storm Immigration Office in Ogbomoso, Dsarm Officers, Escape with Firearms
The security architecture of the Southwest has taken yet another devastating, embarrassing blow as heavily armed suspected terrorists have invaded the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) operational office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The attackers reportedly overpowered the officers on duty, thoroughly humiliated them, and walked away with their service firearms.
According to emerging reports, the terrorists launched a coordinated night assault on the Immigration office. Caught completely off guard, the officers on duty were quickly overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the invaders.
The attackers disarm the personnel, ransack the facility, strip them of their service weapons, and vanish into the night without a trace.
The Oyo State Police Command and NIS authorities have reportedly launched a manhunt to identify the attackers and recover the arms.
A statement signed by DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in Ibadan on Wednesday confirmed this on Wednesday.
Ayanlade noted that the incident left two immigration officers injured and resulted in the theft of a service rifle and other valuables.
He further stated that the immigration officer-in-charge raised an alarm at about 8.45 p.m. after hoodlums scaled the perimeter fence at the rear of the facility.
“On receiving the distress call, operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit and surveillance teams were immediately deployed to the scene for intervention and assessment.
“Preliminary findings revealed that about five assailants gained access through the rear fence bordering a large expanse of bushland.
“The hoodlums attacked two Immigration officers on night duty, assaulting them with sticks and other dangerous weapons before carting away a G3 rifle assigned to the office along with its ammunition.
“The suspects also made away with a mobile phone belonging to one of the officers, a generating set, and a motorcycle battery, before escaping through the same route used to enter the premises,” he said.
