Osun Decides: Ikire Political Giants Cast Votes as Governorship Poll Holds in Osun

Prominent political leaders from Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area on Saturday, August 15, 2026, cast their votes in their respective polling units as the Osun State Governorship Election got underway.
Among those who voted were APC Governorship Aspirant, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, AMBO; Deputy Minority Leader of Senate, Senator Akogun Lere Oyewumi of the Accord Party; and Hon. Ayo Omidiran of the APC.
The three political heavyweights, all from Ikire, turned out early to perform their civic duty and urged residents to vote peacefully.
AMBO Votes, Expresses Optimism
Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, AMBO, who is seeking the APC governorship ticket, voted at his polling unit in Ikire.
Speaking with journalists after voting, AMBO expressed optimism about victory, saying the APC has the capacity to deliver good governance and economic prosperity to Osun people.
The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Akogun Lere Oyewumi representing Irewole, Isokan Constituency on the platform of the Accord Party, also cast his vote in Ikire. He expressed hope on victory of his candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke and also called on INEC and security agencies to ensure a free, fair and credible process.
Similarly, Hon. Ayo Omidiran, APC chieftain and former federal lawmaker, voted alongside party supporters and appealed to voters to come out en masse and vote for candidates of their choice without intimidation.
There was Peaceful Turnout in Ikire
Voting generally peaceful, as at the time of filing this report. Voters trooped out early and security personnel deployed across polling units. Party agents were also present to monitor the process.
Despite fear expectations that their is like good of violence in Ikire during election, because the area was a flash zone as captured during the pre-planning.
The participation of the three Ikire leaders has drawn attention to the town, with political observers describing them as “Ikire Giants” whose influence could shape the outcome of the election in Irewole LGA and beyond.
