Osun Council poll, affirmation of People’s Will – Odelade

The local government elections held on Saturday in all the thirty- one (31) council areas of Osun state have been hailed as a triumph of People’s will.

Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Rural Water and Environmental Sanitation Agency RUWESA, Chief Lanre Odelade declared this in a congratulatory message.

Chief Odelade described the election as an exhibition of courage by Osun state independent electoral commission OSSIEC to enforce the constitutional rights of Nigerians to freely elect their leaders.

The Governor’s Special Adviser also commented the electorate for standing by the state government in its commitment to upholding the rule of law.

He expressed delight that the council poll is an indication that Nigerians from this part of the country are willing to enforce judicial pronouncements as such affect unhindered democratic government at the grassroots.

The RUWESA boss frowned at what he called, partisan postures of the Nigeria police, whose agents arrested some officials of OSSIEC and prevented them from carrying out their duties.

The PDP chieftain described the attitudes of the police as contradictory to its statutory role as non partisan enforcer of law and order in a democratic setting.

Chief Odelade called for thorough investigation into the allegations against the police, which deprived some of the electorate the opportunity to vote in the election.

Chief Odelade also congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke for aligning with the people of Osun state whose desire is to ensure the institution of democracy at the grassroots in line with the supreme Court judgement delivered earlier this year.

He charged the newly elected local government functionaries to justify the investments and mandate of the people who elected them by delivering good government to them.
