NAWOJ Urge Women To Venture Into Politics, Support Each Other

Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ B-Zone has urged women to venture into politics and support the ambitions of fellow women.

 

The female journalists association made this known at the Zonal Executive Council, ZEC Meeting held at Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state.

 

Leveraging on the theme “Women as Catalysts in Nigeria’s Path to Progress,” NAWOJ B Zone at its ZEC presided over by its Vice President, Comrade Adeola Adekunle commended the Ekiti State Governor, Gov Banji Oyebanji for appointing more women in his administration and urged other states to emulate this in the interest of gender development.

 

On states of the state, NAWOJ B Zone noted with dismay the high prevalence of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the country and enjoins NAWOJIANS to speak out and report cases, even in the line of duty. They also called for the speedy prosecution of GBV offenders.

 

The Zone used the medium to appeal to Southwest Governors to ensure the full implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law in their respective states and to pay more attention to the plight of women and girls, regardless of their class or status.

 

The Governors were also charged to embrace inclusion of women in politics, and action which will enhance their government and increase their political party popularity.

 

On Infrastructural Development, the association called for the total rehabilitation of the Aramoko/Efon-Alaye/Ado Ekiti road and the Ikere/Ado Ekiti road to facilitate easy transportation and refuse the high rate of accident on the road.

 

The summit, which was the fourth under the current administration, was well-attended by chairpersons and secretaries from all Southwest States.
