INEC Warns Public Against Fake Online Voter Registration Notice Circulating Online

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has alerted the public to a fake online notice claiming to announce the “Final Phase of Nationwide Online Voters Card Registration.”

The fraudulent flyer, which has been circulating on social media, bears the INEC logo and claims that the commission has announced a new registration date from September 28, 2026 to October 27, 2026. It also advertises “Free PVC Delivery” and directs people to an “Online Registration Portal” to update voter information, transfer polling units, or replace damaged or lost PVCs.

The fake notice is watermarked repeatedly with the word “FAKE” across the image.

INEC has not announced any nationwide online voter registration exercise for the dates stated in the flyer. The commission has also repeatedly warned that it does not conduct PVC registration or replacement solely online, and does not offer home delivery of PVCs.

The commission advises Nigerians to disregard the notice and to avoid clicking on any links or submitting personal details on websites promoted through such materials.

INEC said all official information regarding Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, PVC collection and other electoral activities will be communicated through its verified channels, including its official website and accredited media platforms.

Members of the public who come across the fake notice are urged to report it to security agencies and to INEC’s state offices.

The commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring credible elections and protecting citizens from misinformation and fraud related to the electoral process.
