Oyo Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer in Ibadan, Seize Hard Drugs

Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a suspected drug dealer in the Apata area of Ibadan as part of efforts to curb crime linked to hard drugs in the state.
The suspect, identified as Rilwan ‘M’, 28, was arrested on Friday, September 11, 2026 at about 8:00am following credible intelligence received by the Command.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, and issued on September 13, 2026, surveillance operatives of the Iyaganku Area Command carried out targeted operations that led to the arrest.
Items recovered from the suspect include a quantity of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine, and other suspected dangerous drugs.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is cooperating with investigators. Preliminary investigation is ongoing to establish the source of the drugs and identify other persons connected to the illicit trade.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations against drug trafficking and other crimes.
“Illicit drugs constitute a significant catalyst for various forms of crime and criminality,” the CP said. “The Command will continue to work assiduously to identify and disrupt supply chains of catalytic elements of crime, particularly illicit drugs, while strengthening proactive policing across the state.”
The statement by the Oyo state command PPRO stated that suspect will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.
The police urged members of the public to continue providing credible and actionable information to help in the fight against crime and criminality in Oyo State.
